Approach

Make room
for the moment.

You asked for a fresh take and more of the real thing: the people and acts of care that mattered when it was hardest. That doesn't come from more coverage. It comes from slowing the interviews down, filming the family where they're happiest, and building the fundraising ask into the story instead of bolting it on at the end.

01

Interviews that breathe

Longer sit-downs, fewer questions, and silence left in. We ask about people, not procedures: who walked in at 2am, who explained it to the brothers, what someone said that they still think about. Parents and clinicians answer the same questions so the two sides of the story meet in the edit.

02

Two days, two worlds

Day one is the family on their boat and at the sandbar, the life this care gave back. Day two is Kapiʻolani with the team that gave it. Cutting between the two is the whole film: the ocean is what's at stake, the hospital is who showed up.

03

The ask, built in

We'll ask you to point us to one tangible thing CMN funds that touched this family (a piece of equipment, a program, a room). We film it, a clinician explains it, and the close lands on it. Viewers give when they can see what their gift becomes.

The care is the story. Our job is to give it room.

The story

A boy, his brothers,
and the water.

Our Champion is three years old, from Kāneʻohe, with two older brothers and a family that lives on the water. That's a gift for a film: a place with real scale and beauty, a family with a rhythm we can follow, and two big brothers whose perspective most hospital videos never capture.

The arc below is a starting point. We'll pre-interview the family, then shape and lock the real structure together with HPH x CMN before a camera rolls.

What we know so far
  • Champion is 3, lives in Kāneʻohe with his parents and brothers, ages 8 and 11
  • Family loves the ocean, boating and time at the sandbar, and has their own boat
  • Care team at Kapiʻolani includes physicians, nurses and rehab therapists, being identified now
  • Goal: more genuine moments, stronger CMN fundraising thread, inspire giving
Beat 01

Open on the water

Dawn launch, brothers on the bow, a three-year-old who is simply a kid. No hospital yet.

Beat 02

The day it changed

Parents tell it in their own words, in their own space. We hold on the pauses. The family's own photos and phone video from the hospital carry the moments we weren't there for.

Beat 03

The people who showed up

Nurses, physicians and therapists on what they remember about him, and the family on what they remember about them.

Beat 04

Back to the sandbar

Rehab milestones become ocean milestones. The brothers get the last word on their little brother.

Beat 05

Your part in it

The CMN-funded thing we filmed on day two, the invitation to give, and then the Champion himself, straight to camera, talking to the people watching. Three years old, in his own words. That's the last thing they see.

Production plan

Two days, built around a three-year-old.

Both days are planned around nap windows and a short attention span. The family interview happens on land after the boat, when everyone's relaxed and the brothers have burned off some energy. Hospital day keeps the Champion's time on site short and lets the clinical interviews run long.

Day 1 · Family / Lifestyle

Kāneʻohe Bay + the sandbar

Morning launch on the family's boat, sandbar at low tide, then the family interview at home or dockside in the afternoon light. Weather hold date held in the calendar.

  • AMBoat launch, open-water and sandbar coverage, brothers playing, drone establishing shots of the bay
  • MIDDAYBreak for the Champion. Crew picks up detail and scenery: the boat, the house, the drive
  • PMFamily interview, two cameras, parents together then separately; short on-camera with the brothers
  • CHAMPIONA few minutes with him alone in front of the lens, playing, with a parent just off camera prompting. We're after one real moment where he talks to the viewer; that's the ending
  • SOUNDDedicated sound on all interviews; wireless lavs on the boat for real moments
  • ARCHIVEWe'll ask the family ahead of time to pull photos and phone video from the hospital stay, early milestones and life before. Scanned and cut in as b-roll where our cameras couldn't be
Production day · 3-person crew$3,400
Day 2 · Hospital

Kapiʻolani Medical Center

Clinical interviews first, Champion and family arrive for a short window with the care team, then the CMN-funded space or equipment that connects to his story.

  • AMInterviews with the physicians, nurses and rehab therapists you've identified; two-camera, consistent look across all
  • MIDDAYChampion with his care team: a rehab session, a hallway reunion, whatever is real for him that day
  • PMThe CMN beat: the funded equipment, program or room, filmed with a clinician who can explain its impact
  • PHOTOSchedule built to run alongside your separate photographer without competing for the family's time
Production day · 3-person crew$2,900
Our recommendationShoot the hospital day first if the care team's schedule allows. Hearing the clinical side before the family interview gives us better questions for the parents, and it protects the boat day: if weather pushes it into January, the edit can start on the hospital material in the meantime.
